About Us
EBPMN
Enabling local manufacturing of biosimilars in LMICs can ensure self-sufficiency, control over the value chain, and affordable products, addressing global inequality in access.
Establishment
From Utrecht to the Global South
The Utrecht Centre for Affordable Biotherapeutics (UCAB) facilitated the establishment of the Emerging Biopharmaceuticals Manufacturers Network (EBPMN).
EBPMN adopted a constitution in 2019 and has established a framework and work plan to guide its activities. It was formally established as an international non-profit association in The Netherlands and temporarily hosted by UCAB.
On 25 May 2022 the network was officially established in India, with its registered office in Mumbai, and is completing the transition of its activities from the Netherlands to India. The EBPMN Secretariat is hosted by Instituto Butantan in São Paulo, Brazil.
Enhance access to biopharmaceuticals by facilitating local manufacturing capacity in LMICs.
Mission statement
Enhance access to biopharmaceuticals by facilitating local manufacturing capacity in low- and middle-income countries.
Our Vision
A recognised platform for public–private collaboration
The network aspires to become a recognized global platform for public-private collaborations between emerging biopharmaceutical manufacturers in LMICs and global organizations, government and non-governmental bodies, academic institutions, and biotech entities.
Each year, the EBPMN forum convenes this interconnected network of leading manufacturers to share intelligence, align positions and launch joint initiatives — most recently at the Rio Health Forum, which doubles as the network's annual Board Meeting.
- Representatives from member institutions in Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Russia and South Africa, among others
- Five working hubs: Innovation, Industrial Production, Business & Investments, Regulatory Affairs and Data Driver
- Partnerships with GlobalData, the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo and leading regional event organisers
